3D Video Mapping projection in the Jesus de Tavarangue of  Jesuit Guarani Mission

With the economic cooperation agreement between SENATUR and UNESCO, the installation of 3D mapping technology in the Guarani Jesuit Mission of Jesus de Tavarangue was generated for night activity of the mission. It is an artistic and technical proposal of an audiovisual experience which brings us back to past and tells the story of the Guarani Jesuit Missions and the 30 towns that existed.
Also it is a unique experience in our country which gives value to the heritage monument, and a way to contribute to local tourism.

The story of Video is an invitation to immerse ourselves in what was the history of evangelization of the society of Jesus, and we can say "It is one of the most exceptional feats in the history of mankind", since its foundation in Paris in 1534 and its officialization in 1540. Altough the great history of the 30 Jesuit towns and their blooming in the arts, sciences, religiosity what were comparable to the Republic of Plato, the Utopia of Tomas Moro, the City of the Sun of Campanella, and even Voltaire manifested about the Missions of Paraguay "that appear as triumph of humanity", triumph ended with the expulsion of the Jesuit fathers, decreed in the year 1767.

This experience comes through an innovative technology called 3D videomapping, characterized by being a projection designed especially to adapt to the building that is used as a background

The arts
Chamber music, books printed in Guarani language, scores, high-quality luthier workshops, sculpture making and painting, whose productions were not only supplied to the Missions but was exported to the rest of the colony. In short, a culture that stood out for its good taste and refinement, are some of the topics of this civilization which continues to dazzle visitors from around the world.

Music
There are some famous Jesuit musicians and the Jesuit brother Domenico Ziloli stands out the most. There were also high level of Guaraní composers such as Julián Atyrahu, author of the Inverse Canon that bears his signature.

Print
The Guarani Jesuit Missions had an honor of owning the first printing press along the Plata river and also of manufacturing it.
Jesuit authors published books written by the Guarani, and "Sermons and Examples" by Nicolas Yapuguay is the most representative.

The sculpture
The Missions in the current Paraguayan territory are fortunate to be the depository of the largest and most splendid collection of sculptures of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries of Jesuit origin thirty towns. But it is difficult to see the Jesuit sculpture if you don't visit museum of Paraguay.

The architecture
For the more than 160 years of development it had in this land, the missionary architecture evolved in an extraordinary way, from the native Oga Guazú(Big House) of wood and adobe of the first period to the extraordinary buildings built with small stone.

The architectural complexes of the Guaraní Jesuit Missions of Santísima Trinidad del Paraná, Jesús de Tavarangüe and San Cosme and San Damián, are landmarks of an architecture whose grandiosity and technique was totally different by other buildings in Paraguay until the time of the López.

One of the most outstanding characteristics of the missionary temples was the use of polychromy -or "colorinche" in the architectural elements like friezes, capitals, niches and altars and in the imagery, according to some traveling critics.

This Jesuit mission was founded in 1685 near by Monday River by the Jesuit Father, Jerónimo Delfín.
In 1748 it was located on the site in Jesus where the current Jesuit town is located, and  construction began on the current site in 1758. However, the work was interrupted following the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1768.

It is the most representative mission amongst the all the Jesuit missions because it is the only one that bears the name of the Society of Jesus.
Jesús de Tavarangue is the last destination of the Jesuit Route and was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993 with Trinidad and is considered one of the most important buildings of the 30 Jesuit towns established in the region.

Jesuit Mission for Guarani

Before in history, humans managed to implement the utopia creating a society designed according to the canons of that time, was condidered as good and just. Nestled amid the South American jungles populations far exceeded in art and culture to the rest of the colony was erected.

Different from all the other Jesuit experiments carried out in the rest of Latin America, the Missions of the Thirty towns were the only one that had a true legal shield, thanks to the Ordinances of Alfaro, which turned them into true autonomy.

Although the foundations were more than 50, only 30 were the towns that managed to consolidate, which earned them already in the XVIII century the denomination of "Thirty Towns", of which they are in the current Paraguayan territory: San Ignacio Guazú, Santa María de Fe, Santa Rosa, Santiago, San Cosme and Damián, Itapúa (Encarnación), Trinidad del Paraná and Jesús de Tavarangüe.

The urban structure is made up of the temple which remained unfinished, the main plaza , the college annexed to the church, the protection houses for orphans and widows called Coty Guazú or big house. It also had a garden where they obtained the products for their supply, and the cemetery which is sacred place for the indigenous. Also, you can see the remains of walls of the indigenous houses which were not completed.

The temple was one of the largest building of that time, which has main structure of 70 m of length and 24 m of width, and its conception was intervened by Brother Joseph Grimau and Brother Antonio Forcada.

The building has three naves with regular presbytery, totally built with pink sandstone ashlars (itaky) which is more strong than stone of Trinidad, its architecture corresponds to the last phase of the constructions of the Jesuits and was one of the only ones in which used the lime, this helped to be preserved almost in the same state that was left when the works were suspended, at the time of the expulsion (1768).

The construction of the building began between 1756 and 1759, the side walls were built 12 meters height and the facades 8 meters height. It has a square shaped tower (campanile of 12 meters on each side, rounded corners and blind walls). Morphological details include the trilobal arches of insperation of Moorish and the six inner pilasters or pyramid-shaped stipes.

The internal pillars have the shape of a Greek cross, whose section is 1.57 * 1.57 meters on one side, while the space between the pillars is four times the diameter of the pillar.

The side walls have three covers and two niches, these beautiful images of stone absent today. The amount of spans that the temple possesses in its lateral walls, allows an interior-exterior relation much more fluid in comparison to its pair of Trinidad and if it were roofed it would allow a greater illumination.

Although after the expulsion of the missionaries the construction of the building was continued, it could never be completed and was later abandoned.
